The client is a dairy processing facility producing butter and various forms of milk powder, ranging from skim milk, whole milk, lactose free and organic milk powder.
The client required an additional silo to their existing powder silos, to act as dedicated organic powder storage.
The client engaged a contractor to install the silo and requested Cromarty Automation to integrate and automate the new silo into the existing control system. The client also asked Cromarty Automation to upgrade the PLCs and update the functional descriptions.
Solution
The project from Cromarty Automation’s perspective involved the following deliverables:
- Update existing Functional Descriptions and modify to incorporate new silo functionality
- Develop new Functional Descriptions to account for additional silo infrastructure and equipment
- Program the newly upgraded ControlLogix Powder PLC
- Integrate new silo onto existing CitectSCADA control pages, as well as develop new genies to operate the valves
- Perform FAT of the new powder silo control system
- Perform SAT of the new powder silo control system
- Provide technical support until the system was proven to operate as required
Outcome
The system was delivered well under budget, and the client was extremely satisfied with the result. Issues which occurred during the works were dealt with in an efficient manner and the new powder silo was successfully commissioned. As a result of the successful completion of the project, Cromarty Automation has assisted the client on several additional projects.
