Project

The client is a water and sewerage utility responsible for managing over $2bn worth of assets. The client identified that the failure of an asset which pumps water from a local river to the water treatment plant presented a critical risk. On failure source water would be unavailable for treatment and this could result in supply disruption to customers.

The existing electrical and control systems in the pump station were very old, didn't satisfy the clients safety and functional requirements. The visibility of the raw water pump station at the treatment plant was limited and needed to be improved.

Cromarty were selected to deliver the works.

Solution

Cromarty provided a turnkey solution for the client including:

  • Electrical & SCADA Design
  • Hardware Supply & Installation
  • Engineering, Programming & Commissioning

Detailed deliverables were:

  • Design Services - preliminary design, Safety in Design workshops, detailed design, design documentation & drawings, detailed functional description for SCADA & PLC requirements.
  • Supply & Installation - MSB/MCC, ABB VSD’s, metering/portable generator connection enclosure, underground services to wet well and the analyser building, mains, internal and external lighting, vermin proofing, floor repairs and a heat pump for the switch room.
  • Engineering - SCADA & PLC programming & coding, Factory & Site Acceptance Testing

Outcome

The project was highly successful. The client didn't experience any operational impacts, the clients customers did not experience any disruptions in their water supply and above all although the changeover was highly complex there were no safety incidents.
