Project
The client is one of the top ten dairy processors in the world and has multiple manufacturing facilities in Australia. Due to the size and location of one of its facilities a significant amount of run-off was experienced during a rainfall event. Run-off entered the site stormwater network and was discharged via existing stormwater outlets directly into a local river.
The client had a target of zero contaminant discharge from the site so in the event of an industrial spill they were concerned the spill could enter the stormwater network, resulting in an uncontrolled discharge to the river. To mitigate the risk the client decided to build a new stormwater diversion system to divert spills to an onsite storage lagoon for treatment.
Cromarty were engaged to manage the electrical component of the project.
Solution
The stormwater diversion system included the construction of two new stormwater pits and an interceptor. Incoming stormwater flow was to be analysed at each point and diverted to the lagoon for treatment if a spill was detected.
Cromarty’s role was to:
Outcome
The project was completed successfully taking approximately 9 months to complete. It was delivered to specification and has successfully prevented a number of spills from being discharged into the river.
